Admittedly, we are a little biased around here at S.A. R.O.C.K.S. and think that fostering a shelter dog is one of the most rewarding ways a person can contribute when wanting to help in saving the lives of our cities animals. It means opening up your home, and heart, to these dogs that only have 72 hours or less before being killed at the city shelter. Most of these dogs have been pets and in homes before but, because of reasons they cannot control, wind up lonely at the shelter with limited time. These dogs are loving, friendly, loyal, and in need of a hero to save them.
This is where our foster parents come in. They help rescue these animals from the city shelter to give them more time. The dogs are saved from the shelter and are placed in a temporary foster home until an adoptive family can be found. This time period can range from a few weeks or longer, depending on the individual case, but we have found that most can be placed within just a few weeks.
S.A. R.O.C.K.S helps our fosters every step of the way. We cover all of your foster’s medical costs while they are in your care, and the marketing of your foster dog for adoption. We screen all potential adopters through background and reference checks and our Adoption Team ensures that all dogs go to a safe and loving home. Ultimately, you, the foster parent also has a say as to who adopts your foster.
You and your foster are never alone in this journey and will receive support throughout. There is never a shortage of animals that need to be saved so please, if you are thinking about fostering, give it a shot. We would love to have you as a foster parent for us. When you help save the life of one shelter dog, you are actually saving two by allowing another rescue or individual to focus on saving the life of the next one.
