Frequently Asked Questions
What's the best way to help the dogs?
We are a foster-based rescue, so we are always in need of foster homes. If you’re not in a position to open your home to a homeless dog, you can share our social media posts, donate for the dogs’ medical care, or help transport them to their foster homes or the vet, when the need arises. If you would like to volunteer to transport our dogs, please email [email protected].
How can I sign up to foster a dog?
If you are interested in becoming an S.A. R.O.C.K.S. foster parent, please fill out the online application HERE.
Where can I make a donation?
You can make a donation for our dogs HERE.
How can I adopt an available dog?
If you are interested in any of our dogs please fill out our online application HERE.
How long does it take for my adoption/foster application to process?
It may take us about 24-72 hours to process applications. San Antonio R.O.C.K.S. is an all-volunteer run, non-profit dog rescue, and we have to do this in our free time. Please be patient, as we receive many applications in a day, and it may take us a few days to get through them.
I found a dog, what should I do?
If you are able to safely rescue the dog off of the streets, the first thing you should do is get the dog scanned for a chip. Most veterinarians these days all have a chip scanner. The microchip company can contact the owners and help to reunite lost dogs with their owners. If no chip is found, make sure you search online, post on the neighborhood NextDoor, Lost Dogs of Texas, Pawboost, and Lost Dogs in San Antonio Facebook Groups.
If you are unable to find the dog’s home, the best thing to do is contact Animal Care Services and make an appointment to surrender the dog. As much as we don’t want dogs to end up in the shelter, Animal Care Services is a central city hub. And if their owners are frantically looking for them, this is where they will look first. Make sure you get the dog’s ID#, send us an email at [email protected] with their info, and we can follow up to check their status and possible rescue into our organization.
If you find a dog that is hurt, please call 311 and report them to Animal Care Services, so an Animal Control Officer can come out to pick them up.
Working for the community
S.A. R.O.C.K.S. works closely with our community and Animal Care Services, the local animal shelter. Our goal is to educate our community on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spaying and neutering, and the impact on our city’s pet overpopulation.
If you are interested in becoming involved in the development of any of our community support programs, please email us at .
